Sustainability in Supply Chains and Green Logistics

Operational management with a Chinese focus

70 hours 8 units

Course Overview

This course addresses sustainable supply chain and green logistics management with a specific focus on China and its interaction with international regulatory frameworks. Supply chains concentrate the majority of large companies’ environmental and social footprint: in intensive sectors, Scope 3 emissions typically represent between 70% and 90% of the corporate total. The course covers carbon footprint measurement (GHG Protocol, Scope 3), the Chinese regulatory framework (Carbon Labeling System, Ecological and Environmental Code 2026), the EU Omnibus I package (in force from 18 March 2026), supplier management, green logistics, sustainable packaging, circular economy and integrated decarbonisation.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the key concepts of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) and the regulatory, market and reputational drivers behind it.
  • Calculate and communicate organisational and product carbon footprints using the GHG Protocol, the 15 Scope 3 categories and Chinese standards GB/T 24067-2024.
  • Interpret the Chinese regulatory framework (CLS, Ecological Code, FYPs) and the international one (CSRD/CSDDD post-Omnibus, ESRS, EUDR, EU Battery Regulation, CBAM) in their impact on Chinese suppliers.
  • Design supplier management processes with ESG criteria: assessment, audit, contracting, escalation and digital traceability tools.
  • Apply green logistics criteria (NEV electrification, modal optimisation, sustainable warehousing, last mile) to operations involving China.
  • Identify supply chain decarbonisation levers and competitive opportunities for 2026-2030.
